The USS Cyclops Unsolved Mystery

The USS Cyclops unsolved mystery continues to stump individuals interested in U.S Naval history and mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle zone, as well as the many individuals affected by the loss of the individuals that were on the ship.
Many years prior to the onset of World War I, the USS Cyclops was one of the ships constructed for the Navy of the United States. It was given the name "Cyclops"after the race of massive giants that is often discussed in the mythology stories from the Greeks as it was a very large ship. While this massive water vessel was the second to actually display the identification of"Cyclops", it is the one that is remembered the most. This is because in the beginning of March in the year of 1918, the entire ship along with 306 individuals disappeared forever.


The loss of the USS Cyclops has been deemed as the largest loss that has ever occurred as far as ships directly under the control of the U.S Navy is concerned. This is especially true considering the ship was not engaged in any type of combat when it disappeared. Despite tremendous efforts from a large assortment of organizations worldwide, there has never been any trace of evidence that the ship wrecked. This ship was originally commissioned on the 1st day of May in the year of 1917. She traveled extensively to various locations of the world including France, Nova Scotia, and across the waters of Brazil. In February of 1918, the ship left from Rio de Janeiro.


Four days after setting sail from Rio de Janeiro, the water vessel arrived in Bahia. A couple of days later, a large supply of manganese ore were stocked on the ship and it left from the port in Bahia for Baltimore, Maryland. No stops were scheduled for the USS Cyclops. It has been established that the vessel was nearly 3,000 tons over her standard capacity. Additionally, it was established that the cylinder of the engine had a distinctive crack and it was not as functional as it should have been for standard operation. However, the crew elected to wait until their arrival in the United States to undergo repairs. A large tanker by the name of"Amolco" reported seeing the massive ship on the 9th day of March near the area of Virginia. That evening, a vicious storm was stated to have occurred in the area of Virginia Cape.


The USS Cyclops failed to arrive in Baltimore as scheduled. Naturally, an extensive search operation was put into place and failed. No wreckage was discovered - none at all. There were no traces of human life or loss on the waters that the ship traveled. The investigation performed rendered a final statement by the Naval Administration of the United States. It stated:


"Many theories have been advanced, but none that satisfactorily accounts for her disappearance"


One of the most common theories surrounding the disappearance of the ship involves the Bermuda Triangle zone. Many individuals claim that if the vessel was in danger in the area of the Bermuda Triangle that the navigational crew would have contacted someone with a call of distress. Unfortunately, the year that this happened was 1918. Naturally, the communication systems onboard ocean liners were not as technologically advanced of those we have today. Speculations state that the ship may have sunk due to being overloaded and malfunctions occurring with the engine. Others believe that the magnetic issues that are known to the Bermuda Triangle zone may have resulted in the ship to travel on a course that was incorrect and something strange and unusual occurred. We may never solve this mystery, but two things are certain - the USS Cyclops disappeared without a trace and it was traveling across the mysteriousBermuda Triangle zone.

The Devils Triangle

Dubbed "The Devils Triangle," the area of the Atlantic Ocean in between the points of Florida, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda, is known for its high number of oceanic tragedies.

This has fueled a lot of speculative writing and documentaries dealing with explaining the mystery of such a geographic region. And even after two centuries of exploration of the region, the solution to these mysteries remains elusive.
The mystery of the Bermuda Triangle remains one of the most frightening of all unexplained phenomena. The reason is that while no one can put their finger on the reasons why so many planes and ships disappear, we know that they have disappeared. This cannot be denied and it makes traveling through "The Devil's Triangle" can be a frightening proposition. And there have been some incredibly scary events that have occurred in this part of the world including:
The infamous events of December 5, 1945 where two separate plane disappearances resulted in the loss of over two dozen lives. Flight 19 suffered a loss of 14 crew members and PBM Mariner BuNo 59225 when out searching for Flight 19 when it was reported missing and ended up becoming lost itself during the search. This led to the loss of 13 crew members.
Probably the saddest case of a ship lost in the Bermuda Triangle was that of the USS Cyclops in 1918. The circumstances surrounding the loss of this ship are not completely known but the result was the loss of life of 300+ people on board.
Explanations for the mysteries of The Devil's Triangle range from the thoroughly bizarre themes such as UFO involvement to more logical conclusion such as the size of the region is so huge and is frequented by so many ships and planes, its number of tragedies is understandable.
Whatever the true answer to the mystery is, it is still currently unknown.

The Bermuda Triangle Mystery of the Yacht Named "Witchcraft"

The Bermuda Triangle mystery of the yacht named "Witchcraft" started on the 22nd day in December in the year of 1967.

An avid yachtsman by the name of Dan Burack and his father, Patrick Horgan decided to set sail in the 23 foot luxury yacht. It was a trip where the two would enjoy the magnificent holiday lights off the coast of Miami. The goal was to navigate just a short distance and then observe the spectacular lighting up around the city. Unfortunately, by the time the yacht reached the buoy identified as "7", the yacht named "Witchcraft" had already experienced some difficulty. This was just less than one mile total from the marina that the water vessel had set sail from.
Dan Burack had come in contact with something below the water. He did not discover any immediate threat, but seemed to realize that the rudder of the yacht, or possibly the propeller system had been damaged in the hit. However, it appeared that the actual hull was preserved. Burack made a call to the RCC in Miami and explained that he would need manually assistance to the marina that he left from. He also indicated that the"Witchcraft" was not experiencing an emergency. Individuals that received his call recalled that he was calm and composed. They did not feel, based on the sound of his voice, that there was immediate concern, though they dispatched assistance as soon as possible. The call was made at 9:00PM.
At this point, dispatchers did not consider this to be another Bermuda Triangle mystery. It was not until their arrival, just nineteen minutes after the call was received from Burack called in, did they find the situation a bit particular. Many in the area knew that the "Witchcraft" was designed with a specially built floatation device. The luxury yacht was considered to be "unsinkable". However, when help arrived - the "Witchcraft" was nowhere in sight. As a matter of fact, there was no evidence that the yacht had experienced a struggle, and no appearance that a yacht had ever even been present! It was at this point that the "Witchcraft" became the next Bermuda Triangle mystery.
The Miami Coast Guard could not explain the mysterious disappearance of the yacht. They never received any type of additional calls for assistance from the "Witchcraft". They placed an alert among all water vessels to keep their eyes peeled for the cruiser. An in-depth search of twelve hundred square miles was conducted to no avail of Burack, his father, or his beloved "Witchcraft". Despite the fact that fifty miles worth of water vessels were watching for the boat, no one witnessed it anywhere. Eventually, an amazing twenty four thousand five hundred square miles would be searched over a period of six days. It appeared the "Witchcraft" was, in fact, the next Bermuda Triangle mystery. The Miami Coast Guard was quoted in saying: "They are presumed missing, but not lost at sea". It appears that the buoy 7 has a secret. A secret that it, the "Witchcraft", Burack, and his father know. Considered to be one of the greatest unsolved mysteries, the "Witchcraft" is one of the that will remain to go unsolved...

The Electronic Fog of the Bermuda Triangle

There is a strange phenomenon that is said to take place in the mysterious Bermuda Triangle zone.

This mysterious event is referred to as "Electronic Fog". A man by the name of Bruce Gernon discovered this event. As a matter of fact, it is believed that he is the only person to have actually experienced it firsthand and lived to tell about it. When the electronic fog of the Bermuda Triangle zone caught the attention of Gernon it was as he was flying over the region. To date, he has personally experienced the electronic fog twice over a period of three decades.
The electronic fog that is described by Bruce Gernon is considered to be a meteorological based phenomenon. It is believed that it is the leading cause for the many disappearances of aircraft, water vessels, and individuals throughout history. As Gernon, his father, and a guest flew over the Bermuda Triangle zone, they approached a unique looking cloud that appeared to be in formation. This occurred in the year of 1970. As the aircraft drew closer to the cloud, Gernon noticed that it seemed to be quite fast and ominous looking. He realized at that point that if he entered into the cloud, it could endanger him and the others on his flight.
Unfortunately, as he attempted to quickly think of a flying maneuver that would remove them from any possible danger, he noticed that a different cloud was forming behind the airplane. At this point, he and his passengers realized that the aircraft was literally being engulfed by these two clouds. The clouds were surrounding the craft as if literally drawn to it. He saw that a tunnel started to develop and that the clouds were moving at such a high rate it was best to travel forward. He did his best to hold the aircraft steady and continued through the tunnel of ominous clouds. As the aircraft progressed through the tunnel, it formed a vortex and spiral shapes became apparent. Weightlessness was experienced and even the compass of the craft appeared to be malfunctioning.
Finally, the end of the spiraling cloud tunnel was drawing near...Bruce Gernon and his flight partners were relieved as it appeared that the cloud was closing in on them and that they would never escape. As they reached the point in which they were no longer engulfed in the frightening tunnel, they noticed they had many complications with the equipment that assisted them in the navigational process. They attempted to call in to a dispatcher, but were told that they were not visible on the air radar. As they looked up, they stared into what appeared to be a vast area of nothingness. It was much like fog, only everything could be seen and there was nothing. They knew at that point that they were experiencing what so many others had experienced before them - the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle zone.
The electronic fog of the Bermuda Triangle zone had done more than scare the members of the flight, and cause their navigational devices to malfunction. It also appeared to push them forward in time! A trip that they typically made in about 75 minutes time had been made in a less than 35 minutes! While only in the spiraling tunnel of electronic fog for a few minutes, they had just traveled an amazing 40 minutes in time without even realizing it until the air controllers at Miami informed them that they had finally been identified on the radar and were at the beach!

There are unidentified flying objects in our sky. It is true, many could be military test models and other types of aircraft – but how do we separate the true dark UFO from the military test model? UFO Alien Invasion Possibly Responsible for Crop Circles in the UK

It is believed that a UFO alien invasion is possibly responsible for crop circles that appeared in the UK in July of 2009.
In Wiltshire, a police officer reported observing beings that could possibly be aliens studying a crop where a crop circle was present. The officer was not officially on duty when he made the observation, but he did make an official report on the matter. As he was driving near the location, he noticed three individuals dressed in full white body suits. The initial assumption by the officer was that the individuals were officers that studied forensics. The police man stopped his vehicle and attempted to initiate conversation, but it was apparent that the individuals do not hear him.
As the officer moved closer into the field where the crop circle was located, the beings noticed him and ran away in a fashion that is unusually quick for humans. The officer noticed that all of the figures appeared to be over six feet in height and that they had hair that was blonde in color. As he progressed more closely to the crop circle, he started to hear a noise that reflected an electrical induced hum. He described the sound as "static electricity". He experienced a high level of discomfort. At this point, he turned around and got back into his vehicle. He knew this was unusual. For the remainder of the day, the individual suffered from a severe headache. Is the headache a possible side effect of a potential UFO alien invasion?
While this could be written off as a one time event, there have been other mysterious events that have taken place in the same location. On the 23rd day of May in the year of 1994, a group of researchers were evaluating a circle that was placed in the same crop. These individuals noticed a large assortment of individuals with the military. It seemed as if immediately, they lost track of time and an entire forty five minutes had passed. They seemingly became alert again and lost additional time immediately thereafter with no logical explanation. Once "coming to", they each noticed red marks in the area of the neck. They also had nose bleeds prior to the close of the day.
In the year 1990, a possible UFO alien invasion occurred. The military was performing a training exercise when they were able to capture a white orb that was considered to be unusual and unidentified. The training was called "Operation Blackbird". One individual in the area reported coming face to face with what was believed to be an alien that was up to nine feet in height. Then, there are witness accounts that state government personnel visited them with a book filled with drawings of potential alien life forms. UFO alien invasion or hysteria? Crop circles consist of strange and unusual formations that are typically created in grain based crops. The earliest documented account occurred in the year of 1678.


A news story surrounding a particular crop circle in the year of 1678 was released and it was called "Strange News out of Hartford-shire". When the story came out, it displayed a creature that reflected the devil with a scythe cutting a crop. It was based on the story of a farmer that possessed a high level of greed. This farmer was said to be so stingy that he refused to pay a professional mower a reasonable price to reap the oats that he had grown.


He made a statement that he would much rather that the devil himself did the work than pay to have it done. He went to bed that night and slept peacefully. The next day he started towards the crop and realized that it had been harvested. However, it was done so with such a perfect hand that no person could have done it. He refused to go into the fields afterwards. This is only one of many of the mysteries of crop circles that exist.


Amazingly, in the year of 1999, there were nearly two hundred crop circles documented. The exact number is actually one hundred ninety. It is believed that whatever created the crop circles had the purpose and intent of expressing things to come when the new millennium occurred. Many believe that the mysteries of crop circles are related to UFOs and aliens or extraterrestrial beings. There are others that believe that humans create the amazingly detailed artistic circles. Despite the real reason and culprit of the crop circles, they remain to be one of the world’s greatest mysteries

The black triangle UFO mystery has perplexed many individuals for quite some time.
The "Black Triangles" are considered to be a unique class description for a group of "Unidentified Flying Objects". From as early as the 1940s to today, individuals have reported seeing this type of UFO in the evening and night skies around the world. This type of UFO has been commonly reported throughout the United States. However, sightings have been reported in other locations of the world as well, such as Britain and even Russia.


While it is not at all uncommon for individuals to observe what they believe to be UFOs in the evening and night sky, sightings are often associated with only catching a brief glimpse of the air vessels. When it comes to the black triangle UFO mystery, what makes it highly unusual is that whoever is driving the aircraft seems to be unmoved by the fact that the population over the regions that they travel can easily observe them. One of the most popular reports regarding the black triangle UFO occurred in the area of Brussels on the 30th day of March in the year of 1990. The citizens of the area observed the aircraft hovering over the city and immediately contacted the officials. The law enforcement agency officials reported seeing the UFO moving slowly over the city. Immediately, the Belgian Air Force sent out numerous F-16s to pursue the aircraft. The pilots from the Air Force reported catching the vessel on radar, but then it would immediately dart ahead. Finally, the UFO sped out of sight.

Could this aircraft be some sort of secret military aircraft? Could it be a spacecraft directed by aliens? Airplane passenger UFO sightings account for a large number of reported UFO encounters around the world each and every single year.
It has been estimated that at least once every three minutes, someone in the world witnesses something in the air that they are unable to identify. Statistically speaking, it is quite likely that pilots and those that travel by air frequently are those that experience the sightings more so than anyone. In the earliest days of commercial aviation, pilots would openly discuss the firsthand experiences that they had with unidentified flying objects. Every single year, there are numerous airplane passenger UFO sightings. However, intelligence committees established a ruling in the year of 1954 that all pilots must refrain from releasing information of any UFO sightings and other events related to UFOs that were experienced during the course of their professional duties. The reason that this ruling was put into place is that the Military Intelligence group of the Federal Government stated that UFOs "represented a serious problem", and the airline companies were asked to, and I quote: "cooperate".



July 4th 1947


One of the most popular of the airplane passenger UFO sightings happened on July 4th 1947. United Airlines had a flight that took off from Boise and was due to land in Seattle. The pilot of this aircraft, the crew, and the passengers observed two different formations of UFOs. An estimated four hundred people on the ground also witnessed this event. The most common report was that they were oval shaped and traveling at high speeds.

The year following this event, the Eastern Airlines flight of DC 3 had an unusual run in with a UFO. As it was traveling to its destination, a flying craft that was unknown to the pilot and the crew of the airplane witnessed a bright craft with window that were extremely bright. Within minutes, the UFO nearly ran right into the airliner.



July 19th 1954


In the area of Washington D.C an airliner identified as a Pan Am DC 4 observed six various UFOs moving at particularly odd speeds and angles around their airplane. Not too long after seeing this unusual aircraft behavior, the airplane passenger UFO sightings indicated that the UFOs simply vanished - with no trace.


While this represents only a small section on airplane passenger UFO sightings, you can quickly see that many flying onboard the airliners have observed strange and unusual events in both the day and night sky. Are UFOs real? The answer is likely "yes". Should we cooperate? If the Military Intelligence believes so, then the answer to that is also "yes". Are UFOs one of the world's greatest mysteries? That is a definite "yes"!

Area 51 UFO Mysteries

The Area 51 UFO mysteries have perplexed the minds of individuals all throughout history.

Many individuals believe that the United States Government has been conducting tests and experiments with extraterrestrial aircraft for numerous years. They believe that this testing and experimentation takes place in the remote location that rests in the middle of the desert in Nevada called"Area 51". Visitors that lack authorization to the military establishment are not welcomed in the area. As a matter of fact, there are sensors built into the ground surrounding the area that inform the professionals inside Area 51 that they are drawing close to the facility. In addition to this, helicopters and other aircraft monitor individuals in the area.


The Area 51 UFO mysteries have been very challenging to unravel. Surrounding the premises of this military establishment, there are signs that read as follows:

Many individuals who work for the government or that focus their expertise on matters related to Aerospace have stated that the area is used to develop, experiment, and test highly innovative and technologically advanced aircraft. They rationalize the Area 51 UFO mysteries as being nothing more than individuals witnessing the flight of aircraft that is under the developmental and planning stages of development, and do not constitute it as aircraft from other planets, or aircraft that is being operated by extraterrestrial beings or aliens.


The individuals that study Area 51 from the distances in which they are permitted and strongly believe that aliens and other secrets of the world beyond our own are contained within the establishment. They believe that there has to be a reason why the military base is located in a central desert location. They also believe that there is a reason why deadly force is authorized for those that fail to heed to the trespassing warnings posted all the way around the location. Despite their inquiries and research into the matter, there are no answers.


Many individuals who have apparently worked at the Area 51 location in the past have spoke about the subject matter of the Area 51 UFO mysteries in an anonymous manner. On the videos, you will often see their faces blacked out and their voices will be altered in one degree or another. These individuals state that they were sworn to secrecy on the items that they observed and came in contact with while working on the military base. They also confirm the fact that there are real aliens and real UFOs located on the base. Are they telling the truth? The Fourth Kind Alien Abduction

The Fourth Kind, or alien abduction, is considered to be part of the scale of measurement when it comes to alien encounters.

Many individuals throughout history have stated that they have personally experienced an alien abduction or UFO abduction. This means that they have memories, though subjective in nature, of being taken in a secret manner or in a manner against their will by life forms that are not considered to be human. Making actual contact with an extraterrestrial being is considered The Third Kind when it comes to measurements involving alien encounters. The individual that experiences this may communicate directly with the beings, or the beings may actually communicate with them. While not as frightening as The Fourth Kind, the people that experience this level of personalization with a being that is not human or known through science often describes it as a highly frightening experience.



Alien Abduction


The Fourth Kind of alien encounter is an actual alien abduction. Just like a real abduction, individuals that are taken by aliens are taken against their will. In most cases, the people are eventually returned - but are often reported as having physical and psychological issues once returned. Based on various case studies and surveys, it has been established that up to 6% of the population of the world may have been abducted by an alien or group of extraterrestrial beings. In order for it to be validated that an individual experienced The Fourth Kind they must have been taken against their own will from the surroundings that they consider the norm and by living forms that are not identified as "Human".


When a person experiences The Fourth Kind they are typically subjected to some type of examination. The Mystery Of The Pagan Origin Of Christmas: Jesus Was Not Born On December 25th But A Whole Bunch Of Pagan Gods Were

Why is Christmas celebrated on December 25th?  Most people assume that it has always been a Christian holiday and that it is a celebration of the birth of Jesus.  But it turns out that Jesus was not born on December 25th.  However, a whole bunch of pagan gods were born on that day.  In fact, pagans celebrated a festival involving a heroic supernatural figure that visits an evergreen tree and leaves gifts on December 25th long before Jesus was ever born.  From its early Babylonian roots, the celebration of the birth or "rebirth" of the sun god on December 25th came to be celebrated under various names all over the ancient world.  You see, the winter solstice occurs a few days before December 25th each year. The winter solstice is the day of the year when daylight is the shortest. In ancient times, December 25th was the day each year when the day started to become noticeably longer.  Thus it was fitting for the early pagans to designate December 25th as the date of the birth or the "rebirth" of the sun.

The truth is that thousands of years before there was a "Santa Claus", there was another supernatural figure who would supposedly visit a tree and leave gifts every December 25th.

His name was Nimrod. 

The celebration of December 25th goes all the way back to ancient Babylon.

According to ancient Babylonian tradition, Semiramis (who eventually became known as the goddess Astarte/Asherah/Ashtoreth/Isis/Ishtar/Easter in other pagan religions) claimed that after the untimely death of her son/husband Nimrod (yes she was married to her own son), a full grown evergreen tree sprang up overnight from a dead tree stump. Semiramis claimed that Nimrod would visit that evergreen tree and leave gifts each year on the anniversary of his birth, which just happened to be on December 25th.

This is the true origin of the Christmas tree.

From this original fable peddled by Semiramis (the "Queen of Heaven") came the tradition for pagans to go out to the holy "groves" and leave gifts for Nimrod (who later came to be worshipped as "Baal") at an evergreen tree.

Does that sound like a "Christian" holiday to you?

In fact, in his classic work "The Two Babylons", Alexander Hislop describes the Babylonian origins of Christmas on page 93.... 

"Long before the fourth century, and long before the Christian era itself, a festival was celebrated among the heathen, at that precise time of the year, in honor of the birth of the son of the Babylonian queen of heaven. It may fairly be presumed that, in order to conciliate the heathen, and to swell the number of the nominal adherents of Christianity, the Roman Church, giving it only the name of Christ adopted the same festival. This tendency on the part of Christians to meet Paganism halfway was very early developed; and we find Tertullian, even in his day, about the year 230, bitterly lamenting the inconsistency of the disciples of Christ in this respect, and contrasting it with the strict fidelity of the Pagans to their own superstition."

In fact, the name "Yule" is the Babylonian word for "infant" or "little child" as Hislop describes on pages 93 and 94 of his book....

"That Christmas was originally a Pagan festival is beyond all doubt. The time of the year, and the ceremonies, with which it is still celebrated, prove its origin. In Egypt, the son of Isis, the Egyptian title for the queen of heaven, was born at this very time, 'about the time of the winter solstice.' The very name by which Christmas is popularly known among us -- Yule-day -- proves at once its pagan and Babylonian origin. 'Yule' is the Chaldee name for an 'infant' or 'little child'; and as the 25th of December was called by our Pagan Anglo-Saxon ancestors, 'Yule-day,' or the 'Child's-day,' and the night that preceded it, 'Mother-night,' long before they came in contact with Christianity, that sufficiently proves its real character. Far and wide, in the realms of Paganism, was this birthday observed."

So when you offer "yuletide" greetings, you are actually acknowledging Nimrod's birthday.

The truth is that the pagan holiday of "Yule" has been celebrated by the pagans of northern Europe from late December through early January for centuries and centuries. Yule logs were traditionally lit throughout northern Europe to honor the pagan god Thor. The festival would continue until the Yule log burned out - which could take up to twelve days. This is where we get the so-called "12 days of Christmas".

In fact, Wiccans, neo-pagans and even many witches still celebrate Yule to this day. Many of them think it is incredibly funny when Christians use the pagan word Yule. Yule is one of the most important holidays for them.  The following excerpt was taken from a website on witchcraft:

So where did Christmas come from?

Well, the truth is that the word "Christmas" is not actually found anywhere in the entire Bible.

In fact, the word "Christmas" was not even invented until about a thousand years after Jesus left this earth.

The Catholic Encyclopedia even admits this....

"The word for Christmas in late Old English is Cristes Maesse, the Mass of Christ, first found in 1038."

But Jesus was not even born on December 25th.

The reality is that it would have simply been far too cold for shepherds to be out with their sheep at night in Israel on December 25th.

The vast majority of Christian scholars now acknowledge this.

So when was Jesus actually born?

Based on the information we have in the Scriptures, it appears that it is most likely that Jesus was born in the fall.  In particular, it seems most likely that Jesus was actually born during the Feast of Tabernacles

So how did December 25th come to be celebrated by Christians?

Well, by the time the Roman Empire legalized Christianity in the 4th century, most of the other religions in the empire were celebrating the birth of their gods on December 25th.

Leading up to December 25th in ancient Rome, a festival known as Saturnalia was one of the biggest celebrations of the year.  Saturnalia was a festival during which the Romans commemorated the dedication of the temple of their god Saturn. This holiday began on the 17th of December and it would last for an entire week until the 23rd of December.

Saturnalia was typically characterized by gift-giving, feasting, singing and lots and lots of debauchery.  The priests of Saturn would carry wreaths of evergreen boughs in procession throughout the pagan Roman temples.

Later on, the Romans also started holding a festival on December 25th called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, which means "the birthday of the unconquered sun."  Basically it was a way for the empire to consolidate all of the December 25th "sun god" birthdays throughout the empire into one holiday.

In the year 350 A.D., Pope Julius I declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on December 25th from then on. There appears to be little doubt that Pope Julius was trying to make it as painless as possible for pagan Romans to convert to Catholicism.

However, the new holiday did not really take off with Christians at first.  The widespread celebration of December 25th by Christians did not really get going until 378.  It was apparently then dropped in 381 and then resurrected in 400.

But the truth is that December 25th was celebrated as the birthday of scores of pagan gods long before it was ever associated with Jesus.

As we discussed earlier, the celebration of December 25th goes all the way back to Nimrod (who eventually came to be worshipped as Baal).

Baal worship spread throughout the known world and provided the basis for all other pagan religions.  The following are just some of the pagan gods that had "birthdays" on December 25th....

Sol Invictus - (The "Unconquered Sun")

When the Roman Catholics decided to make December 25th a "Christian holiday" in the fourth century, they simply adopted a long standing pagan holiday and kept most of the same pagan traditions.

For example, the ancient Babylonian "Christmas tree" became known as a symbol of fertility throughout the ancient world.  The pole, balls, and tinsel (phallus, testes, semen) represented various aspects of male fertility, while wreaths were always fashioned in a circle to represent female fertility.

In "The Two Babylons", Hislop describes some of the ancient traditions surrounding the Christmas tree on page 97....

"The Christmas tree, now so common among us, was equally common in Pagan Rome and Pagan Egypt. In Egypt that tree was the palm-tree; in Rome it was the fir; the palm tree denoting the Pagan messiah, as Baal-Tamar, the fir referring to him as Baal-Berith. The mother of Adonis, the sun-god and great mediatorial divinity, was mystically said to have been changed into a tree, and when in that state to have brought forth her divine son. If the mother was a tree, the son must have been recognized as the 'Man the branch.' And this entirely accounts for the putting of the Yule Log into the fire on Christmas Eve, and the appearance of the Christmas tree the next morning."

That sure puts a different spin on Christmas traditions, now doesn't it?

Most Christians don't even realize that God warned us about such things in the Bible. 

In Jeremiah 10:1-4, God warns us against putting up these decorated trees like the pagans were doing....

Hear what the LORD says to you, O house of Israel. This is what the LORD says: "Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the sky, though the nations are terrified by them. For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter."

The Puritans understood this.  It comes as a surprise to most Americans to learn that the Puritans once banned Christmas trees in many areas of the United States because they were considered so pagan. 

According to ancient Babylonian tradition, the springtime fertility festival of Ishtar (Easter) was a time when the "Queen of Heaven" was believed to become impregnated.  Nine months later the sun god would be "born" or "reborn". 

To the ancient Babylonians, these holiday trees came to be worshipped as the "Queen of Heaven", and gifts were brought to the "groves" of trees that had been grown in her honor and placed beneath them as offerings.

The Babylonians also used wreaths to represent the nativity of the sun, since they were objects that depicted the "womb" of the Earth mother.

Early Christians completely rejected these traditions.  In the 3rd century, Tertullian wrote the following about these pagan celebrations....

"On your day of gladness, we [Christians] neither cover our doorposts withwreaths, nor intrude upon the day with lamps.  At the call of public festivity, you consider it a proper thing to decorate your house like some new brothel. We are accused of a lower sacrilege because
we do not celebrate along with you the holidays ..."

The truth is that the celebration of December 25th and most of the accompanying traditions have always been pagan.

But many Christians will protest and say that it is okay for them to celebrate December 25th because to them it is all about Jesus.

That was the same excuse that Aaron used when he and most of the rest of the people of Israel worshipped the golden calf while Moses was up on the mountain getting the Law of God.  Aaron actually said that the worship of the golden calf was being done to the Lord as we read in  Exodus 32:5....

When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, "Tomorrow there will be a festival to the LORD."

But we know how that turned out.

God was not pleased.

At all.

In fact, He was furious.

In the same way, God is not pleased when we celebrate pagan holidays and keep traditions that have been pagan for thousands of years.

Is The Dramatic Increase In Volcano Eruptions Happening Because We Are Getting Closer To 2012?

All of a sudden, volcanoes all over the globe have been violently erupting.  In fact, some volcanoes that have been dormant for generations have been springing to life.  So what are we to make of all this?  The truth is that nobody knows for certain why so many volcanoes are suddenly so active.  Could the dramatic increase in volcano eruptions be happening because we are getting closer to 2012?  It is very hard to say.  The truth is that what is going to happen in 2012 is one of the greatest unexplained mysteries of the world.  Fortunately, we only have a couple years to wait until we find out what 2012 is going to hold for us.  Meanwhile, those who are projecting massive earth changes in the year 2012 are pointing to these volcano eruptions as indications that we had better get prepared.  Many believe that as we pass through the galactic plane in 2012 that we will see earth changes that are absolutely unprecedented.  There are even many that believe that the earth will experience a catastrophic pole shift in the year 2012. 

Others point to the dramatic increase in volcano eruptions and earthquakes as a sign that Bible prophecy is being fulfilled.  In Matthew 24:7-8, it tells us this about the last days....

"Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.  All these are the beginning of birth pains."

Well, the truth is that whatever you believe there is no denying that the level of volcanic activity that we are experiencing right now is absolutely stunning....

*The eruption of Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull volcano made headlines all over the globe, and it caused cancellations of thousands of flights in Europe because of the giant ash cloud that it produced.

*Scientists are warning that a second, much larger volcano in Iceland named Katla is showing signs that it may be about to erupt.

*A volcano known as Tungurahua (The "Throat of Fire") came to life last Friday morning, 130 kilometres southeast of Ecuador's capital, Quito, and exploded continuously through the night.

*Guatemala's Pacaya volcano, 50 kilometres south of Guatemala City, began erupting on Thursday afternoon.

*U.S. officials said on Monday that the rapid eruption of an underwater volcano in the Pacific Ocean has exhaled a steam and ash cloud in the air and left a trail of debris on the surface of the water near Sarigan Island in the Northern Mariana Islands.

*Costa Rica's Arenal volcano erupted recently, spewing geysers of lava, ash and toxic gases from its crater and forcing the evacuation of the national park where it is located.

*But it just isn't volcano eruptions that are increasing.  We all know about the horrific earthquakes that happened in Haiti and Chile, and it is being reported that earthquakes are up 151 percent in 2010. 

The reality is that we are seeing earth changes that are absolutely unprecedented in our lifetimes.

As we get closer to 2012 will these earth changes become even more dramatic?

Hopefully that is not the case, but there is no denying that the earth is starting to tremble.

So let us hope for the best and prepare for the worst.  If all of this shaking keeps happening we could be headed into some very interesting times indeed.

Super Soldiers: Will The U.S. Military Soon Outfit Their Soldiers With Exotic Prosthetics, Mechanical Exoskeletons, Implantable Microchips And Even Edit Their DNA?

The face of the U.S. military is radically changing.  Technology is evolving faster today than ever before, and the U.S. military is determined to be at the cutting edge of applying futuristic technology.  A lot of things that once were only in the world of science fiction are quickly making their way into the U.S. military.  In fact, there are some projects in development that are so bizarre that it is kind of hard to believe that they are real.  After all, creating soldiers with superhuman strength and endurance using pharmaceutical drugs, outfitting soldiers with exotic prosthetics and mechanical exoskeletons, implanting microchips directly into the brains of soldiers to give them an advantage in battle and editing the DNA of soldiers to make them the ultimate killing machines all seem more like something out of a really bad summer movie than real goals that the U.S. military should be pursuing.

But they are.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or Darpa, recently released its budget for the upcoming year.  DARPA has a reputation for bizarre research projects, and this year they definitely are not disappointing us.  DARPA's new budget includes money for "super soldiers" with "edited DNA" and implantable microchips.  DARPA explains one application for these new technologies this way....

On the other end of the size scale, a primary goal is to apply microsystem techniques to soldier-protective biomedical systems. One example is an in-canal hearing protection device that will provide enhanced hearing capabilities in some settings, but be able to instantly muffle loud sounds of weapons fire. This one example will improve inter-personnel communications and at the same time drastically reduce the incidence of hearing loss in combat situations. For these examples and many more, the goal is to bring exceptionally potent technical approaches to bear on biological and biomedical applications where their capabilities will be significant force multipliers for the DoD.

But DARPA is not alone in pursuing these bizarre new technologies.  According to the U.S. Army's Future Soldier Initiative, the soldiers of the future might boost their brains with drugs and prosthetics, augment their strength with mechanical exoskeletons, and have artificially intelligent "digital buddies" at their beck and call.

The goal of these drugs, prosthetics and exoskeletons would be to give soldiers "superhuman" abilities that they would not otherwise possess.  For example, the ability to effortlessly carry a very heavy weapon into battle would be a significant advantage on the battlefield.

Some of these exoskeletons are absolutely amazing.  Just check out the following video news report which contains footage of a soldier demonstrating a prototype of an exoskeleton.....

But will these changes go too far?  In the pursuit of creating "ultimate killing machines", will we create monsters who show no hesitation and no remorse when killing other humans?  Will we create beings that are half human/half machine that have no place in society once their battlefield careers are over?

The future is going to be a very strange place, there is for certain.  Let us hope that our military leaders think things out very clearly before implementing these ideas.  Sometimes changes that are thought to be "good" can have very bad, and very unintended, consequences.

Will A Massive Asteroid Named Apophis Collide With The Earth In 2036?

Do you remember the Hollywood blockbuster "Armageddon" in which Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck were sent to knock a massive asteroid off course before it could collide with the earth? Well, it turns out that is almost exactly what the head of Russia's space agency, Anatoly Perminov, want to do with the massive asteroid known as Apophis. Perminov says that he wants Russia to send a specially designed spacecraft to knock the large Apophis asteroid off a potential collision course with Earth. Not implementing a plan while we still have time will be absolutely disastrous for humanity according to Perminov. In fact, Perminov says that he is convinced that the 885-foot-wide asteroid "will surely collide with the Earth in the 2030s".

Perminov envisions that NASA, the European space agency and the Chinese space agency will all work together to eliminate the threat that Apophis poses.

Apophis was first discovered in 2004, and it is known that the asteroid will make a very close pass to earth in 2029, but astronomers do not believe that the asteroid has any chance of hitting the earth at that time.

However, Apophis is scheduled to come much closer to the earth in 2036, and there is significant debate among astronomers and scientists as to whether Apophis has a good chance to striking the earth at that time. 

Perminov, for one, is totally convinced that Apophis represents a threat that needs to be addressed now....

"People's lives are at stake. We should pay several hundred million dollars and build a system that would allow to prevent a collision, rather than sit and wait for it to happen and kill hundreds of thousands of people."

However, Perminov believes that humanity does have the ability to avoid this future catastrophe if they will work together.

"Calculations show that it's possible to create a special purpose spacecraft within the time we have," the New York Daily News quotes Perminov as saying. "The threat of collision can be averted."

In fact, Perminov is not the only one who is concerned about Apophis.

In July 2008, U.S. Representative Mark Udall directed NASA to track Apophis and to develop its own plan to protect the earth from this threat.

NASA has estimated that if Apophis did indeed hit the Earth, it could potentially cause a massive explosion (or churn up a huge tsunami) that could possibly kill millions of people.

Some are even wondering if Apophis or another asteroid just like it is mentioned in the book of Revelation in the Bible.

In Revelation 8:8, it says this....

The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea.

A huge blazing mountain thrown into the sea?

How else would someone describe an asteroid 2000 years ago?

Not that we or anyone else is saying that Revelation 8:8 is definitely referring to Apophis.

It is just very interesting to note.

The truth is that in the end times there are going to be extraordinary things happening in the heavens.

In fact, in Luke 21:25, Jesus told us this....

There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.

So will Apophis be a sign in the heavens?

Perhaps it is way too early to determine that.

But the fact that authorities around the globe are already so concerned about it is quite telling.

The truth is that we are moving into the most chaotic and yet most extraordinary time in all of human history.  It is certainly going to be an interesting ride.

The Mystery Of The 100 Foot Long Snake In Borneo

A while back, an alleged photo of a 100 foot snake in a river in Borneo created quite a stir.  It was claimed that the picture to the left was taken by a member of a disaster relief team that was monitoring flood conditions in the Baleh River in Borneo by helicopter.  The problem is that it is just so easy to fake just about anything these days that we will probably never know if this photo is actually genuine or not.  As we have seen in so many cases in the past, people are so willing to lie just to gain a little notoriety.  But that certainly does not mean that this photo is not real.  It just means that it cannot be confirmed.  If this photograph is genuine, then it is absolutely extraordinary.  The truth is that snakes can still get really, really big in some areas of the world.  

But 100 feet long?

That seems like a stretch.

But it could be true.

The Mystery Of Montauk Monster

After all of this time, there is still no answer to the mystery of the Montauk Monster.  On July 12th, 2008 a very bizarre creature washed ashore on a beach near the Montauk, New York business district.  This incredibly strange creature was  photographed by a 26 year old woman named Jenna Hewitt who lives in the Montauk area.  The creature was apparently already dead at the time.  However, when people went back to look for the creature later it was gone. 

So what happened to it?

East Hampton animal control told the media that they did not cart it away and that they do not know what happened to the creature: "I can tell you we have nothing to do with it."

In fact, nobody knows what happened to it.

For that matter, nobody knows what it is.

Some have suggested that the Montauk Monter was just a dead dog.  Others insist that it was a raccoon.  Some have postulated that it could be a sea turtle or a rodent.

However, some conspiracy theorists have pointed out the weaknesses in all of those arguments and have suggested another possibility.

They have suggested that the Montauk Monster is the result of bizarre genetic experiments at the nearby Plum Island Animal Disease Center.

In any event, the Montauk Monster was never found again, so this will probably forever remain one of the great unsolved mysteries of modern times.
